Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

In Millis, we honor each student as an individual learner, recognizing that each student has his or her own learning styles, interests, passions, challenges to learning, strengths and skill levels.  We engage, support and challenge all students through varied instructional approaches that help students take ownership of their learning.  Students are afforded voice, choice and flexibility in how they learn and are allowed to demonstrate their understanding in various ways to improve student well being and ensure that they are “future ready”.

Curriculum is determined by the grade level MA Frameworks Standards in content areas. The goal for students is to demonstrate mastery of priority standards. Students' level of mastery is reported on standards-based report cards in grades K-7. Learners in Millis Public Schools engage in real-world, project-based learning in order to develop the competencies that are required in a global 21st century innovation economy.

Instruction is personalized to address the strengths, challenges, interests and passions of learners.
Teachers offer multiple ways for students to demonstrate their learning through performance tasks and self-assessment. Feedback, reflection, and opportunities for relearning support all students in their quest to master standards.

Assessment in Millis may be formative in nature, to monitor progress and inform instruction, or summative to measure the level of learning at a given point in time. Students engage in universal screening assessment three times a year in reading and math, and they take the required state MCAS assessment(s) for their grade level.
